Structure of the Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences

The institute comprises four scientifically independent departments and one centre.

Department of Botany

The department studies ecology and systematics of plants at several organisational levels – from photosynthetic apparatus to global vegetation patterns. Molecular methods have found their way into all branches of biology. The Department of Botany attempts to be at the cutting edge – utilisation of novel molecular techniques has become the rule rather than exception. At the same time, classical botany and ecology are not forgotten – plants and fungi are still respected and students are taught to be able to identify them from sight.
